You can be strong without denying yourself the support that turbocharges growth!
Learn From Your Heroes . . .
Listen to the “victory speech” of anyone who’s achieved something significant, and you’ll hear them thank a long list of parents, supporters, coaches, teachers, motivators, advisers, and doctors who have helped guide and support them in achieving that success. They turbocharge their growth with the help of people who’ve “been there before.”
Ironically top performers search out the best guidance they can find, while many men handicap themselves with the belief that, to be respected, they need to figure everything out by themselves. And nothing is more difficult to figure out on our own than how to overcome distorted beliefs of our value, strengths, and personal challenges.
You’re in the right place!
“You’re unique, but your problems aren’t. You don’t have to figure this out alone.”
I’m here to help, man-to-man.
I’m Dr. Ray Coffin, a California psychologist with over 30-years’ experience helping men get their lives back in balance when it’s gotten to be too much to handle alone. If you’re one of those men—and what’s worked for you in the past just isn’t cutting it anymore, let’s talk! I provide a confidential place to sort out what’s not working in your life, clarify what you have the power to change, reinforce skills critical to your success, and support you as you build the confidence you need to make those changes. While I wouldn't claim to have "seen it all," I don't often hear something from a client that I haven't encountered before, and either know how to deal with or know where to direct them to find someone with the necessary expertise.
Imagine . . .
No longer fearing you’re about to lose it.
Looking forward to the opportunities each day brings to achieve things that matter to you.
Being the person you want to be for those you love.
Feeling confident you have the skills you need to handle what life throws at you.
My Approach to therapy
I will meet you wherever you are now, and get you moving in the direction you want to go.
My approach is patient-centered, compassionate, and supportive.
Approaches to therapy have “exploded” over the course of my career, each with something to offer for the right patient, at the right time in their journey. But what the research consistently shows is that it is the quality of the relationship between the patient and therapist that makes the most difference in the work we do. So I place a great deal of emphasis on ensuring that together we build a safe, supportive relationship that allows you to express what you need to, explore your inner experience without judgment or shame, and learn new, more effective solutions to the problems you face.
My approach is patient-centered, compassionate, and supportive. In trying to understand a person’s developmental history, I am particularly sensitive to the effects of trauma—whether experienced early in life or later, and integrate that with a psychodynamic model of personality development. As we begin to focus on specific problems and possible interventions, cognitive behavioral therapy, attachment theory insights into relationship styles, “inner child” integration techniques, clinical hypnosis, and biofeedback are among the approaches and techniques that I rely on to design interventions.
